The Murph Challenge is a workout (in CrossFit terms a “Hero WOD”) honoring USN SEAL LT. Michael P. Murphy who was posthumously awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his actions in Afghanistan in 2005. The workout includes a one-mile run, 100 pullups, 200 pushups, 300 squats and another one-mile run

Murph Events

Opening Ceremony & Check In

Check-in begins at 8am.  First phase (the 1 mile run) begins at 9:30 am. Note: we will have a brief but impactful ceremony to remember all who have fallen, and all who have sacrificed for our great Nation. Please come before 9am to check and get your lane assignment.  Location of all events is All Veterans Memorial Park, Emporia, Kansas

About the Challenge

This event is open to all!  We have several levels/categories to compete in.

 

Full:

Mile Run

100 Pullups

200 Pushups

300 Air Squats

.5 mile Run/Walk

25 Chin ups or 5 Leg Tucks

75 Push Ups

100 Air Squats

Adaptive

-If you have physical limitations you can self modify this event to ensure you stay within your safe fitness limits.  Simply notify the lane manager what you will be doing/adjusting to participate.  

Recognition & Celebration

All participants whether you complete your challenge or not,  receive the Emporia Freedom Fest T-shirt, the EFF Challenge Coin, the Edible Medal and swag Bag.

Top three individuals and Top Three Teams  form the Full Event Category receive recognition items courtesy of Vigiliance Marshal Arts.  

Support the Cause

The net proceeds from the Vigiliance Marshal Arts Murph Challenge, as part of the Annual Emporia Freedom Fest , will benefit multiple charitable organizations within our region to include:

1.  The 137th/635th REG Scholarship Fund:  This fund is for family members of Veterans who were members of the locally founded and historic 137th and 635th Regiments of the USARMY and Kansas Army National Guard.  Each year descendants of these regiments are eligible to apply for one of the five post-secondary scholarships.

2.  All Veterans Memorial Park Fund:  For the past 18 years  our events have heled fund the improvements and upkeep of the is beautiful and powerful All Veterans Memorial Park. 

 

This park reminds us all of the sacrifices and service  Veterans and their family members have made and continue to make for our Nation.
